Manufacturing of Door Skins
Door Skin is a popular item these days, one step ahead of flush doors. In this article, process for manufacture of door skins is explained.
Door Skin is a concept which is current attraction in the Indian Door Industry. Use of Door Skin is on step ahead of Flush Door (where the surface in flat). To manufacture Door Skin, the Panel Door designs are copied down on the steel moulds which are crome plated. Flat 3 to 4 mm MDF boards are pressed in the Heated mould plates sets to form to designed door skin which can be plain or wood grained.
The pressure applied in the press is so high that the Medium Density Board becomes High Density Board. By changing the designs of the mould plates a variety of Door skins can be manufactured. Normally it takes 1-2 minutes to complete one cycle. These 3D Door skins are used in Flush Door instead of Flat surfaces. Use of Door Skins make the Flush Doors look like Panel Doors
Presently the demand for Door Skins is met by imports in India from USA, Europe, Malaysia & Indonesia etc. In western countries Honey comb or hollow boards are used in the construction of Skinned Doors. But in India solid cores are used with saw dust mouldings making the Doors very heavy. Hence these Flush doors have all the problems, faced by solid core doors. Presently many companies in India are importing the Skinned Doors and Door Skins and are meeting the increasing demand. Hence good quality skinned Doors will be the need of the day. The Door manufacturers in India can gear up to setup for the Manufacturing Technology to meet this growing demand.
